Sail It Forward

The water should be for everyone. We run two free programs — weekly community outings and a monthly day dedicated to underserved youth, families, and neighbors.

Once a Month · Free

Norma Jean's Community Day

Named after Norma Jean, who loved the docks and the water more than anyone we know. Once a month, we dedicate a full day to taking kids, families, and neighbors from underserved communities out on Lake Union — completely free.

This isn't charity. It's access. Too many people in Seattle live near the water but never get on it. We want to change that, one boat ride at a time.

Who It's For

  • Youth groups and kids who've never been on a boat
  • Low-income families and neighbors
  • Residents of public and affordable housing communities
  • Community organizations serving underrepresented groups

What the Day Looks Like

  • Multiple sailings throughout the day (morning and afternoon)
  • Groups of up to 6 per trip on our 32-foot Ericson Sloop
  • Licensed captain, all safety equipment, life jackets for all ages
  • A chance to help sail, take the helm, and learn about the water
  • Snacks and drinks provided
